eero Simple Setup

Overview

I led UX design for this project, collaborating closely with engineering from the start to understand technical constraints and ensure feasibility. I tested the end-to-end experience, iterated based on findings, and designed a setup flow optimized for ease of use and minimal friction.

Success metrics

Reduced average setup time from 2.7 minutes to 7s for one device and from 35.5min to 2.7 min for 3 devices.

A new "magical" setup experience

Previously, adding an eero device to an existing network required the use of the app in all circumstances, including cases where the new eero is connected directly to the gateway unit via ethernet. With eero Simple Setup, you are now able to add an eero to your network automatically–simply by hardwiring the eero to your existing network via Ethernet.

This can save valuable time when attempting to expand your network by automating the connection and configuration process and enable you to quickly connect multiple wired eeros at once.

When hardwiring an eero to your network, if you haven’t enabled Simple Setup previously, your app will display a message asking if you’d like to enable Simple Setup for this or future devices. If you don't want to enable it, you can also just confirm which devices you would like to set up.
